Tundra Super Lates Begin 2012 Saturday At DRP

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (May 21, 2012) – A return of the Super Late Model division last season brought fans out in droves for the five-race series at Dells Raceway Park. When the Super Lates return under the TUNDRA banner this season, they will give plenty of reasons for fans to keep packing the stands.

Over 30 Super Late Models are expected to be a part of the five-race TUNDRA Super Late Model Series this season. Among them are returning Champion Frank Kreyer and his Super Star Motorsports fleet, runner up Dennis Prunty, third-place Jeff Storm and two-time winner in 2011 Dalton Zehr.

Adding a little more firepower to the lineup this season will be Wisconsin short track racing legend Rich Bickle of Edgerton, Wis. Several other heavy hitters are rumored to be joining on a part-time basis, to test their mettle against TUNDRA regulars.

A new format will keep the drama flowing from the first green flag in qualifying through the conclusion of the main event.

Depending on the final car count, either 20 or 22 cars will transfer from qualifying into the main event. The fastest driver will win an award from Super Star Motorsports. The top five qualifiers will compete in a five lap dash presented by Baricade Flasher Services. Those who did not qualify will not face a traditional last chance race.

Of the non-qualifying drivers, the first three drivers who did not qualify into the main (ex. 23rd, 24th, and 25th), two point provisionals and one promoters choice will be given an opportunity to race their way in. The six drivers will draw for position and race a six-car, six-lap dash dubbed the Leo’s Upper Dells Bar Gong Show. The top two will transfer; the other four will be placed into the 30-lap Waterfurnace Shootout with other non-qualifiers.

All drivers that are not in the fast dash or Gong Show will compete in 8-lap heat races presented by Tiry’s Race Engines and Wegner Automotive Research.

In lieu of a 55-lap feature that was the main event last season, TUNDRA will highlight its night with the Advanced Engine Concepts Twin 40s. The field will be stopped at lap 40, allowed to work on the cars during the break and will engage in a final 40 laps to the checkered flag.

After the checkered flag has fallen, three stars of the race will be selected, presented by Bonafide Safe and Lock, The Country Plumber and Coleman Racing Products. The stars of the race will not necessarily be the top finishers, but those who were deemed to have put forth the best effort in the race. In the following race, three fans will be chosen and assigned a star driver. If that driver wins, the fan will receive a prize.

TUNDRA will join all four Dells Raceway Park Weekly classes. DRP will also celebrate Armed Forces Night. All veteran and active military receive free admission by presenting identification.

Special ticket pricing applies next week, $15 for Adults, Youth are $10, Kids (6 to 9) are $5 and 5 and under receive free admission. Qualifying is scheduled for 4:45 p.m., Racing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Dells Raceway Park is located at N1070 Smith Road, five minutes north of downtown Wisconsin Dells, Wis., off highway 12-16. For more information including the latest news, the 2012 schedule and more visit www.dellsracewaypark.com.
